Introduction to Art Discovery
This month is a low-complexity (15-20 minute) opportunity for Leads and General Volunteers to connect with their classrooms. Leads will visit in the latter half of the month to introduce themselves, talk about the upcoming Art Discovery year, and provide each student with a small sketchbook (for them to take home). If a Lead is not available, the Art Discovery Chair can accommodate and speak with the class.

Introduction to Faux Stained-Glass
Students will create vibrant faux stained glass designs using acrylic sheets, black marker, and paint. This approachable project invites them to experiment with line, color, and translucency as they learn how artists use light to bring images to life. Each piece becomes a glowing, expressive work meant to be shared and enjoyed. This month's project is designed to be low prep and low complexity.

Abstract Expressionism
Students will explore abstract expressionism by creating dynamic compositions that emphasize color, movement, and personal expression rather than realistic imagery. While all students investigate how abstract art can communicate ideas and emotions, each grade level approaches the lesson with different materials, techniques, and tools, allowing for age-appropriate growth and increasing complexity. Younger students focus on structure, repetition, and fine motor control, while older students work with mixed media, geometric forms, and more open-ended compositional choices. Across all grades, the lesson encourages intentional decision-making, experimentation, and confidence, highlighting that abstract art values process, individuality, and creative exploration.
